The Normal That Never Was
We are now 11 months into a previously inconceivable-to-many-of-us global public health catastrophe. Each of us has had different hurdles to surmount and different resources to bring to bear. My family has been comparatively lucky with two stable adult incomes from jobs that can be done by Internet-connected computer. We also have only one child and our steady professional jobs have afforded us the resources to send that one child to very-well-managed child care 2-3 days a week through the PJCC… which has given her a chance to socialize with other kids in a strictly stable cohort in well-sized rooms with not too many kids where everyone is wearing masks and there are daily temperature checks. We also have the huge difference-maker of a comparatively tight-knit neighborhood where there’s masked, outdoor play happening at the park down the block and I bought some flag football belts off of Amazon so…
